Cash Rich Tech Stocks
My Stocks Selling Below Cash post proved to be fairly popular, which may be a sign of the times. As a result, I thought I would give another twist on this concept by looking for cash rich tech stocks, which was inspired by the B. Riley Cash Rich Tech Stocks (CRTS) Portfolio and Goldman’s recent cash rich tech stock list that came out last week. B. Riley’s CRTS I and CRTS II had pretty strong performance relative to the market, although the second CRTS was markedly less profitable than the first. The B. Riley tech stock list is now in its third iteration. These tech names in my cash rich tech stock portfolio have Debt/Equity ratios less than .3 and cash as a percentage of market cap of 30% or greater. I have subdivided these groups into mid-cap names [between $1B-$10B] and small-cap names [between $200M-$1B] because there are so many. Generally speaking, tech stocks trade more on growth than on creditworthiness, which is why I think this type of list is interesting. In terms of strategy, I would recommend buying an entire basket of these names, or sub-category of names, as opposed to individual stocks.
